Press Release No. 031, 2016

-    The new responsibilities will be effective starting next March 7.

Bogotá, March 3, 2016 The Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported that the Colombian Association of Speech Therapists will assume new public functions starting 7 March, under Law 1164, 2007 and Resolution 382, 2015.

Luis Carlos Ortiz, Director of Human Resource Development in Health, said that these functions are related to the registration of speech therapy professionals in the Single National Register of Human Talent in Health (ReTHUS), the issue of the professional card, and the single identification of the people enrolled in the ReTHUS.

Also included are the issue of temporary permits for foreign professionals in speech therapy to come to the country in scientific missions or for the provision of humanitarian, social or investigation health services.

Ortiz said that for other professions and occupations in the health area “the functions described above remain subject to current procedures and regulations, until they are assumed by a professional school that meets the legal requirements.”

He stressed that, as stated in Decree 4192, 2010, “speech therapy professionals who have met the legal requirements to date remain in force and will be registered automatically in the (ReTHUS).”

Speech therapists who have not fulfilled the corresponding requirements–before March 7 this year–“must apply for registration in the ReTHUS and issue of professional card as single identification in the Colombian Association of Speech Therapists starting March 7th,” he added.
